Special Types of Ultrasound

Doppler Ultrasound
This can show movement inside the body - for example, blood flowing or the heart beating

Vascular Ultrasound
This can show how well blood is flowing in arteries and veins in the neck, legs, arms and other areas of the body.

This studies the heart and surrounding structures. It can provide information about the heart's size, shape and function. It's often used with Doppler Ultrasound.

Echocardiography can also be performed with a special transducer that's passed down the esophagus.

Transvaginal Ultrasound
Smaller, specially designed transducers are inserted into the vagina. In some cases, these tests provide better images than other methods.
